Helping a child experience the joy landing their first fish or experiencing to solace of a remote pond as trout rise to take a dry fly. Using worms and a bobber to take pan fish in shallow water, fishing deep for lake trout or casting for bass among the weeds. Is part of any vacation in Vermont.
For the Child
Tips Use worms and a bobber and a bait casting rod do not use a large hook or large weight. The fish are small and they will steal the bait on a large hook.
Take the Kids here
Here are two locations where success is assured.
1. Camp Plymouth State Park on the back of Echo Lake (Rt 100 North) offers rental row boats. Fish the shallow parts of the lake home to many small pan fish.
2. West Hill Park in Ludlow has a large pond where trout can be caught from the shoreline at dusk.
3. Lovers Lane Brook in Chester.
For the Trout Angler
Trout are the species of choice, the flash of color, aggressive behavior and love of a fight make them a favorite sport fish.
The Black River along Route 131 east of Cavendish offers some of Vermont's best rainbow and brown trout fishing. Six miles of stream are designated as a Trophy Trout Stream.
The Ludlow Lakes located on Route 100 north produce rainbows and lake trout in good numbers. Our many mountain streams and beaver ponds are favorite locations for brook trout.

For the Bass Angler
Vermont's larger streams and lakes contain both small and large mouth bass in good numbers.
Lowell Lake off Route 11 West of Chester produces four pound small mouth consistently. No power boats are allowed.
The Connecticut River south of Springfield produces bass in good quantity.

License Requirements
Fishing season begins on the 2nd Saturday in April and ends on the last Sunday in October. Any person under the age of 15 may take fish without a license. Resident and Non Resident licenses can be purchased at Sporting Goods Stores, General Stores, and Town Clerks offices. Fees: Non Resident age 15-17 $15, Adult 1 day: $15; 3 day: $20; 7 day: $30 and full season $41. Obtain a free copy of 2003 Digest of Fishing, Hunting and Trapping Laws.
